Native Criminal/Family Court Program
Primarily, the Native Court-worker interprets the legal
system for the Native client and advises him /her of their rights under the law. The Court worker is then able to intervene
on behalf of the client with all individuals involved in the judicial process, i.e. Lawyers, Judges, Crown Attorneys, Defense
Council, Probation, after care and Correctional Officers.
Life Long Care Program
This program provides care and support for the Elderly,
disabled and the chronically ill. Community dining is offered once a week, homes visits and security checks regularly.
Aboriginal Alcohol /Drug Program
This program provides preventive services,
intake/intervention, assessment and treatment, planning and education awareness programs in the areas of alcohol, drug and
solvent abuse using a holistic approach.
Aboriginal Family Support Program
To provide support to children through the
provision of Holistic-healing. Preventative services which address all levels of dysfunction, prevalent among urban Aboriginal
families.
Aboriginal Healthy Babies Program
This program promotes healthy growth and
development of Aboriginal babies, build on parenting skills, and link families with the community supports and resources.
Aboriginal Prenatal/Nutrition Program
This
program provides culturally appropriate information for the purpose of improving pregnant mother’s and father’s
knowledge.

This
program is primary focus is crisis intervention. The goal is to ensure that the healing and wellness needs of the aboriginal

Children's
Mental Health Program
The
Akwe:go program provides Culural Activities focusing on understanding and values of Aboriginal culture. The Program component involves respecting others, Our focus is on bring the mental, physical,
emotional and spiritual components of the human personality together as youth grow and are lead towards becoming whole.
Youth Program
To creat a network of
urban multipurpose, Aboriginal youth programming. Program provides accessible, aboriginal community based culturally relevant
and supportive projects, programs, services and counselling to urban aboriginal youth. This program will address the physical,
mental, emotional and spiritual needs of the young people with respect to social interaction, health, social services, education,
training and employment to promote strong self-esteem and pride in being an aboriginal person.
GREAT &
OGI Employment Program
This program provides
support and assisatance to clients in thier pursuit of permanent employment , throught resume writting, job seach counselling,and
computer access, fax/photocopying services, access to job listings, training coures listing, education / occupation resources
Native Learning Centre
This program invites all adults to join in sessions and
to participate in the Native traditional learning session. Areas of skill development include reading, writing, basic math
and life skills.
Strengthening Hamilton
Aboriginal Education (SHAE)
The
Hamilton Wentworth District School Board has partnered with the Hamilton Regional Indian Centre to create an alternative education
for Aboriginal students wishing to continue their educational career but not currently attending a secondary school in Hamilton.
The Alternative Education Program at the Hamilton Regional
Indian Centre features:
- A drop-in,
self-paced, structure;
- Credit attainment by completing Independent Learning Centre and locally developed courses
- Small group and individual instruction and support;
- Mandatory 18 hours a week attendance;
- A culturally appropriate learning environment
Urban Aboriginal Healthy Living Programme
The UAHLP is designed to increase participation of urban Aboriginal people in sport, physical fitness, physical
recreation and other health promotion programmes that promote healthy lifestyle behaviours.
The objective is to work towards achieving the following desired health outcomes:
1. Increased healthy eating habits, including increased knowledge of healthy nutrition, healthy eating practices,
traditional diets and activities, healthy weights and weight management;
2. Increased physical activity levels of community members through participation in organized sport activities,
physical fitness activities and physical recreational activities;
3.Increased healthier lifestyle choices, including reduced use of commercial tobacco products and increased
smoke free environments in community and personal spaces; and,
4.Increased numbers of youth who are engaged and participating in leadership programming and positive community
activities.
